Education Law Services

As a small firm with a narrow focus on education, we offer highly personalized advocacy to help your child access all the services s/he needs for success in school.  Whether your child requires a specialized school, additional specialized services or accommodations or assistance in another education matter, our expertise in education law will provide the comprehensive representation necessary to help your child obtain the education to which s/he is entitled.

Consultation

Education law is ever changing and evolving.  It can be a confusing world of acronyms and terminology unique to the field of education and education law.  We take pride in clearly explaining your child's rights and protections. We'll help you navigate the process and empower you to advocate on behalf of their child.

Expert witness

Experienced in testifying in court and preparing written expert reports, Alexandra is available to provide expert testimony as an education consultant and on matters concerning education law.

Attending IFSP/IEP Meetings

Parents are entitled to bring a lawyer or advocate to meetings with school district officials held to develop the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Education Program (IEP).  Alexandra provides representation to parents at these meetings in order to ensure that appropriate accommodations (for example testing accommodations) and services are recommended in your child’s IFSP or IEP and to ensure that placement recommendations are individually tailored to meet the unique needs of each child.

Negotiation and Mediation

Alexandra has a background in education and experience working as a teacher as well as an education law attorney within a school district.  This unique background gives Alexandra the ability to work collaboratively with school districts and their attorneys to ensure the rights of your child are protected and disputes are resolved quickly for the least disruption to your child’s education.

Disciplinary Matters

We are committed to finding appropriate solutions for disciplinary issues your child may be facing in school.  We will protect the interests and rights of your child at a disciplinary hearing or meeting and ensure that decisions regarding your child’s disciplinary record are addressed and amicably resolved.

Hearings, Complaints and Appeals

In instances where the issues between the parent and school district cannot be resolved, Alexandra provides representation at mediation, due process hearings, and/or formal complaint procedures and appeals to ensure your child receives the services to which s/he is entitled under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Alexandra will fight for all remedies warranted under the law including a change in program recommendation, frequency and nature of services, educational classification, and placement.  In some case, tuition reimbursement may be warranted for a private school placement due to the school district’s failure to offer your child a free appropriate public education (FAPE).
